There should be a cable strung from all the bolts. A stabbing blade would deflect, and be trapped in the cable giving the shield bearer the brief advantage.

You are missing a very important key point here... these shields are not just to be used against freedom fries. These things work great when you encounter an NPC that starts screaming at you because you have a particular bumper sticker or flag in your yard. You just pull this thing out and hold it just like you would normally. They get mad and hit the shield with their fist and it hurts and they back off while you keep walking. It works for any socially awkward encounter. Catfished on a date? Just pull out the shield and hold it in front of your face and go back to your car and you are good to go!

You could mount spare mags on the inside of the shield. Or a kbar.....or both.

Like a Spartan but Something concave and round with coverage from hip to neck. And a cut away Infront of the hand hold so you can still use your left hand to steady your weapon.

Question: could you design something more like a small Spartan shield? One you can use your arm horizontally to deploy? And what about ones with sight windows so you can keep your face more protected? I'm all for the concept, just floating ideas.

Closet shield is a decent use case. Depends on the defendability of your home. No need to cart it around just make a known portable hard point with access in your plan.

Thick polycarbonate shields are lighter and stronger. The fact they are clear is an advantage.

As I've been digging into armour, I've been increasingly curious what exactly makes up a trauma pad? I do not see reports of people having personal results with them (fortunately) but it does begger the question... What exactly IS a trauma pad? Non Newtonian fluid feels wrong, because they aren't fluid and if they were, it would settle to the bottom of whatever seems they had. I don't find cutaway videos or anything really breaking this down. I don't want to volunteer to be the guy to "demonstrate" a with versus without, but without any firsthand accounts I can find, it makes me more curious... BFD aside, the NIJ has an absurd level they accept. Some 44mm which is almost 2". Insane, not a level I'd want poking into me, bullet stopped aside. So to simply be NIJ rated and assisting that isn't curing my idea that trauma pads are a touch of snake oil... I am really curious, please help me understand.

For civilian use this and the video are the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a long time. Absolutly no reason you would need this as a civilian, but ANTIFA would love to purchase quite a few. Secondly, lugging around and caring for all the traditional riot gear is a tremendous amount of work.

Leaving my comment here to say, AR500 SELLS to the public. I was reading the comments and nearly clicked off the video because they come off as if he said they only sell to LE. Turns out, they're saying they don't agree with those companies because it's not a law to only sell to LE. Glad something made me stick around and I'm now looking to gift this to myself on Christmas.

I've seen helldivers take on Autoaton fleets with a Ballistic Shield and a pistol! Hulks even! (Just saying, in game, no one uses bc they think it's a joke item). Just like IRL, no one really thinks about getting one for their home. Very good idea/plan to have. Especially if you live alone in a tony apartment. U can hunker down!

I've been using shields for decades! Can't shoot at the same time though, bows and arrows needs 2 hands and I don't have a third for a shield... Never had to ward off invaders in my home (is that a benefit of not living in the US?) but I have a Sax and a Buckler by my bedside 🙂
